A letter from ISPS-US Explaining and Exclaiming our Disclaiming

The International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis, United States Chapter (ISPS-US), was founded as a membership organization. However, our members have recognized that this also means providing services. We do that now for our members, and for the community at large. We have had so many requests for the names of therapists who understand experiences commonly referred to as psychosis or schizophrenia that we finally decided to offer classified ads. But, in doing that, there is no opportunity, other than this message, to tell you that we legally can't recommend anyone to you, even if we would like to do that. We neither rate, nor qualify therapists for practice. That is the job of licensing agencies in local jurisdictions. Like it or not, we live in a litigious society. You should also be aware that our members include peer counselors and alternative approaches to healing that may not be subject to any regulatory agencies.

So here is the statement our legal consultant thinks is a reasonable, plain English effort to tell you what we can't tell you, and also tell you what you might find useful. But, you still need to make your own judgment. We can't do that for you.

Now here is the disclaimer part:

ISPS-US is providing these classified ads by ISPS-US members. We are merely providing these ads for your convenience and do not endorse any of the individuals listed nor do we make any judgment about the appropriateness of any therapist or any other service or training for your particular needs. The people posting ads have shown enough interest in the fields of psychosis, extreme and unusual states to join the International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis. You should expect to gather your own information about the level of skill, interest, experience and/or other qualities of the people listed as you make your own decision about a helping individual or trainer. ISPS-US takes no responsibility for any decisions you make, nor do we take responsibility for the outcome of any decisions you make.

Please indicate your understanding and acceptance of the terms and conditions of use of these classified ads by choosing the option below:

By proceeding to the CLASSIFIED ADS, I understand and accept the terms and conditions of use as described above.

ISPS-US thanks ISST-D (International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation) for permitting us to substantially quote from their disclaimer page.
